"Over history Macau has been an important gateway trought which western civilization entered China; for hundreds of years this piece of land has nurtured a symbiosis of cultural exchange, shaping the unique identity of Macau.

"The Historic Centre of Macau" is living testimony to the assimilation and continued co-existence of eastern and western cultures over a unique chapter in history.
The inscription of "The Historic Centre of Macau" at the 29th Session of the World Heritage Committee in July 2005 raised the number of Worl Heritage sites in China to 31, making China the country with the third largest number of inscribed World Heritage Sites in the world."
